Change in Ontario

I first noticed at the beginning of the season when the same old faces were coming out but with them was a mix of new faces. I came to the full conclusion that things were definitely beginning to change on a trip to Nangor for the 2nd Roots Tour stop.

The trip started off with Jono Boysen and I driving from Toronto to Nangor. I've done the same trip a few times, but never with Jono. We got into a conversation about the state of wakeboarding in Canada. We talked about where it’s been and where it's going. During this particular conversation we were discussing the people involved in Ontario, the riders possibly driving the scene. We both felt like there had been a lack of these people in the last few years, and were thinking of a hundred reasons why that might be. Going to the Nangor Roots stop we didn't know what to expect. We wondered if anyone would come to this rugged stop? Do people even know about it or want to ride?

The first day was the demo day. The beginning started off a little slow - a few people showed up but there was still no sign of change - just some weekend warriors who like to ride but as the day moved on the people started to come.

Lots of new faces were killing it, especially coming out of Ottawa. This was cool because being on the west side of Ontario you don't get to meet the East very often.

The best part of this entire trip was watching the young guns that had grown up. Now these are the guys and girls that are proving key in changing the wake scene. They are the ones who are passionate enough to drive 6 hours to hang out and ride. The people who will stop at a winch spot and make something out of nothing. They are the ones who continue to drive the sport and keep it growing.

With all the recent change it's good to see such a good group of riders pushing our sport in the right direction. Things are definitely changing for the Ontario wake scene.
