What is the most common element of both skateboarding and snowboarding? Answer: handrails. Handrails are on the cover of every snowboard and skateboard magazine and can be found in all the videos. Everyone who rides has hit a handrail whether on the hill or in the streets, so it seemed inevitable that wakeskating would go in that direction.
It was a cold winter day when Nic, Caroline and I went to scope out this hand rail that only a hand few snowboards including Nic had hit. Since the lake was frozen it was hard to judge where the water actually was. Nic wasted no time in the summer to go scope out this rail again. He had to be there just at the right time before the water level dropped. The rail looked just as sketchy in the summer as it did in the winter. Rocks on both sides with a 30ft handrail and a landing that was sketchy.
Nic and Ryan Doyle built a pool about 40 feet long at the top of the rail. A crate was used as the island for the winch. Nic then dug out a large amount of mud of what would become the landing. By the time this was all done, everyone had showed to film, shoot photos, and watch what would become the photo annually cover for alliance wakeboard.
